A thick volume dedicated to Cucchi's drawing between 1975-1989 it features an essay by Ursula Perucchi-Petri that talks us through the recurring motifs in Cucchi's work. Transport & travel, trees & mountains, houses, oval objects. Her insight is fascinating as she describes him as the reluctant genius - 'For Cucchi, there is no pleasure to be found in drawing or staying in his studio; he works moved by the responsibility of doing what has to be done.' The seriousness of the artist's intentions is tested to the limit by some particularly absurd works; but it does stand firm. This book is unsettling throughout and all the better for it.
